The Problem Isn’t Patriotism.
It’s What We’ve Let It Become.
Take Back Patriotism exists to return love of country to where it belongs — in the hands of everyday people, lived out through compassion, truth, and shared responsibility.
That isn’t patriotism. That’s performance.
Our Core Beliefs
At the heart of Take Back Patriotism are a few simple, non-negotiable beliefs. They’re the roots of the kind of patriotism we’re trying to grow.
Because freedom cannot survive on denial, disinformation, or convenient lies.
Because loving a country means loving its people, especially the ones who’ve been ignored or pushed aside.
Because democracy is not a spectator sport; it only works when we show up.
Because the future is something we build together, not something handed down to us.
Because no one should feel like a guest in the country they call home.
Because changing the story of patriotism means changing the symbols, stories, and norms we celebrate.
How We Make It Real
Changing the story of patriotism takes more than new language — it takes new habits, new spaces, and new forms of participation. We focus our work in four areas:
- Conversation — making room for honest, respectful dialogue across lines of difference.
- Education — sharing tools and stories that ground patriotism in truth and history.
- Participation — lifting up concrete ways for people to show up where they live.
- Culture — creating and supporting art, narratives, and symbols that reflect dignity and shared belonging.
